Best Tartaglia (Childe) Build - Stats, Weapons, Artifacts [Genshin Impact]

Tartaglia or Childe is an S-Tier main or sub-DPS character among the best characters in the Genshin Impact tier list. He was released in version 1.1, and he remains a great DPS character and is really fun to play with (making me regret being too bored with Genshin Impact at the time of his rerun, although my pity was low anyway. That being said, I will be content if I get Eula).

Tartaglia is another unique character in Genshin Impact as while he is a bow user, he can switch between his ranged stance and a melee stance by using his Elemental Skill. When you press E, Tartaglia manifests two Hydro daggers and deals AoE damage. For the next 30 seconds (at most), Tartaglia will be fighting in melee mode, dealing Hydro damage with his daggers.

The two stances don't make Tartaglia a versatile character though. He is meant to be used in his melee stance.

It is recommended that players end the melee stance before the 30s mark as hitting triggers a very long cooldown. Typically a player should initiate a fight using Tartaglia's ranged Charged Normal Attack to apply the Riptide effect to as many enemies as possible and then switch to the melee stance to defeat enemies, which will trigger Riptide Burst dealing AoE damage and spreading the Riptide effect to other enemies. Riptide will also generate a ton of energy, while your melee critical hits will also apply Riptide to new enemies.

Using his elemental burst, Havoc: Obliteration, in ranged mode helps apply the Riptide effect to many enemies, while using it in melee mode will deal massive damage, clearing the Riptide effect.

I have already mentioned that Tartaglia would work excellent as a Sub-DPS with Ganyu, applying Hydro and then switching to Ganyu to freeze enemies and deal massive damage.

But the best thing you can do is pair him with a C6 Xiangling, use Xiangling's Elemental Skill and Burst and then switch to Tartaglia and activate melee mode for massive Vaporize damage. In this setup, Tartaglia is the Main DPS, his ideal role.

Fischl is also an excellent choice as you can summon Oz and then apply continuous Electrocharged reactions with Tartaglia.

Characters like Bennett are of course always useful but combining Fantastic Voyage with Tartaglia will give you just one set of Vaporize reactions. But then again you get the massive attack buff. I would expect a rotation of Bennet's Elemental Burst, Xiangling's Elemental Skill and Burst and then switching to Tartaglia would work great.

The main disadvantage to Tartaglia is that you will need to switch him out when his melee stance is on cooldown. Obviously, if you can unlock his C6, you can have Tartaglia in melee mode pretty much all the time. While this is great since you will probably run Tartaglia with Heart of Depth, you will still need to switch him out, apply other elemental stats, and then bring him back and switch to melee, triggering the 4-set bonus.

Tartaglia's C4 is a very tricky one as it will keep producing Riptide procs even when he is not on the field, so it can really mess up your elemental reactions. Keep that in mind.

His passive Foul Legacy: Raging Tide allows him to apply Riptide without having to use ranged Charged Normal Attacks.

Tartaglia Stats

Below you will find Tartaglia's main stats at each Ascension level.

Stats

Tartaglia Skill Talents

Normal Attack: Cutting Torrent

Performs up to 6 consecutive shots with a bow.

Charged Attack

Perform a more precise Aimed Shot with increased DMG. While aiming, the power of Hydro will accumulate on the arrowhead. An arrow fully charged with the torrent will deal Hydro DMG and apply the Riptide status.

Riptide

Opponents affected by Riptide will suffer from AoE Hydro DMG effects when attacked by Tartaglia in various ways. DMG dealt in this way is considered Normal Attack DMG.

  • Riptide Flash: A fully-charged Aimed Shot that hits an opponent affected by Riptide deals consecutive bounts of AoE DMG. Can occur once every 0.7s.
  • Riptide Burst: Defeating an opponent affected by Riptide creates a Hydro burst that inflicts the Riptide status on nearby opponents hit.

Plunging Attack

Fires off a shower of arrows in mid-air before falling and striking the ground, dealing AoE DMG upon impact. When Tartaglia is in Foul Legacy: Raging Tide's Melee Stance, he cannot perform a plunging attack.

Elemental Skill – Foul Legacy: Raging Tide

Unleashes a set of weaponry made of pure water, dealing Hydro DMG to surrounding opponents and entering Melee Stance. In this Stance, Tartaglia's Normal and Charged Attacks change as follows:

Normal Attack

Perform up to 6 consecutive Hydro Strikes.

Charged Attack

Consumes a certain amount of Stamina to unleash a cross slash, dealing Hydro DMG.

Riptide

Hitting an opponent affected by Riptide with a melee attack unleashes a Riptide Slash that deals AoE Hydro DMG. DMG dealt in this way is considered Elemental Skill DMG, and can only occur once every 1.5s.

After 30s, or when the ability is unleashed again, this skill will end. Tartaglia will return to his Ranged Stance and this ability will enter CD. The longer Tartaglia stays in his Melee Stance, the longer the CD. If the return to a ranged stance occurs automatically after 30s, the CD is even longer.

Elemental Burst – Havoc: Obliteration

Perform different attacks based on what stance Tartaglia is in when casting.

Ranged Stance: Flash of Havoc

Swiftly fires a Hydro-imbued magic arrow, dealing AoE Hydro DMG and applying the Riptide status.

Melee Stance: Light of Obliteration

Performs a slash with a large AoE, dealing massive Hydro DMG to all surrounding opponents, which triggers Riptide Blast.

Riptide Blast

When the obliterating waters hit an opponents affected by Riptide, it clears their Riptide status and triggers a Hydro Explosion that deals AoE Hydro DMG. DMG dealt in this way is considered Elemental Burst DMG.

Tartaglia's Passive Talents

Tartaglia's passives talents are plenty useful, especially Sword of Torrents which allows you to apply Riptide status while in his melee stance.

Never Ending (1st Ascension Passive)

Extends Riptide duration by 8s.

Sword of Torrents (4th Ascension Passive)

When Tartaglia is in Foul Legacy: Raging Tide's Melee Stance, or if his Normal and Charged Attacks do CRIT DMG, they will apply the Riptide status effect on the hit enemy.

Master of Weaponry (Utility Passive)

Increases your own party members' Normal Attack Level by 1.

Tartaglia's Constellation: Monoceros Caeli

Best Tartaglia (Childe) Builds

You can build Tartaglia as your main DPS relying on his Hydro DMG and Riptide during his melee stance. Alternative, you can use him as a Sub-DPS relying on this Elemental Burst for heavy-hitting Vaporize reactions with Hu Tao, Diluc or Klee as the Main DPS.

Recommended Artifact Stats & Substats

Elemental Mastery on Tartaglia's Sands artifact is fine for Sub DPS if you have a lot of ATK% substats already and you overall artifact luck is like mine.

Best Tartaglia DPS Artifact Sets Ranked

As already mentioned the first set is ideal for Frozen team comps. The second one is also very good due to the 4-piece bonus and it will work really well with reverse melts if you have Bennett or even better Xiangling on your team who is easy to C6. The third and fourth best set are generic alternatives until until you have the first two sets or until you get the right characters for frozen or reverse melt team comps.

Keep in mind that you will need to go for headshots if you use Prototype Crescent. If you use Blackcliff Warbow make sure to keep it at max stacks.

Best Tartaglia Sub DPS Artifact Sets Ranked

The recommended way to go with Tartaglia as a Sub-DPS is to rely on his Elemental Burst with Vaporize reactions, so these sets all require the 2-piece Noblesse Oblige bonus
