Eevee Evolutions Pokemon Go: How to Get Them All

Posted by Merna Tatro on Friday, December 9, 2022

Our beloved Eevee has always been an intriguing Pokemon to evolve, even in the first Pokemon games, where you needed a different type of stone to evolve Eevee into one of its powered-up forms (Flareon is one of my all-time favorite Pokemon, by the way). Eevee evolutions in Pokemon Go can be both easy and hard to get right. To begin with, all eight Pokemon Go Eevee evolutions are now available.

While here, don't forget to check for the latest Pokemon Go promo codes and the best Master League Pokemon.

All Eevee Evolutions in Pokemon Go

Pokemon Go now features all evolved forms of Eevee: These are all Eevee's evolution forms:

  1. Flareon
  2. Jolteon
  3. Vaporeon
  4. Espeon
  5. Umbreon
  6. Leafeon
  7. Glaceon
  8. Sylveon

Eevee requires 25 candies to evolve to one of the first three forms (Flareon, Jolteon, Vaporeon), but out of the box, the resulting evolved form is random among those. All you need to do to remove the randomness is change Eevee's nickname before evolving her. Using this method, you can evolve Eevee to all eight forms once per account. Once you use a nickname, you cannot use it again, and you will have to resort to the second method.

The second method is not universal among all eight forms, and it is split into four different approaches to evolving Eevee, one per generation of evolved forms.

Eevee evolution names – How to evolve Eevee in Pokemon Go (name Trick)

As I said, the first method, which can only be used once per form, requires you to change Eevee's nickname before evolving her. There is one unique nickname associated with each form. You can rename your Eevee, control the evolution, and get that form. Here are all the eight evolution-nickname combos:

  • Flareon: Set Eevee's nickname to Pyro and then evolve her
  • Jolteon: Set Eevee's nickname to Sparky and then evolve her
  • Vaporeon: Set Eevee's nickname to Rainer and then evolve her
  • Espeon: Set Eevee's nickname to Sakura and then evolve her
  • Umbreon: Set Eevee's nickname to Tamao and then evolve her
  • Leafeon: Set Eevee's nickname to Linnea and then evolve her
  • Glaceon: Set Eevee's nickname to Rea and then evolve her
  • Sylveon: Set Eevee's nickname to Kira and then evolve her

Ensure the silhouette of the evolved form before evolving Eevee before pressing the Evolve button. This way, you won't waste 25 Eevee candies for the wrong form.

While this is the easiest way to get each Eevee evolution in Pokemon GO, the trick works once, so you should use it wisely on your Eevee with the highest CP and appraisal ratings (3-star or even 4-star if you are lucky enough to get 100% in all three IVs).

The question remains what do you do after you exhaust all eight nicknames? So, let's see all the alternative methods to control what form Eevee evolves to.

There is good and bad news here, as you cannot control the first three original forms, but you can control the other five, albeit with some extra work.

How to Evolve Eevee to Flareon, Jolteon, or Vaporeon

After you exhaust the nickname trick options, to get Flareon, Jolteon, or Vaporeon, you must rely on luck, plain and simple. The evolution will be random, and you cannot do anything about it, so you have a 33% chance of getting the form you want.

Now let's get to the Eevee evolutions you can control.

How to evolve Eevee to Espeon and Umbreon (Time of Day Trick)

To get Eevee's Generation 2 evolutions, after you use their respective nicknames, you will have to:

  • First, add Eevee as your buddy, and then:
    • Walk 10km during the day and then evolve Eevee to get the psychic-type Espeon. Make sure that the in-game sky indicates daytime.
    • Walk 10km during nighttime and then evolve Eevee to get the Dark-type Umbreon. Make sure that the in-game sky indicates nighttime.

As I said, there is a bit of a challenge here. Now let's see how you can get the two Generation 4 Eevee evolutions at will.

How to evolve Eevee to Leafeon in Pokemon Go

To get Leafeon, you will have to evolve Eevee and apply a Mossy Lure during the evolution.

How to evolve Eevee to Glaceon in Pokemon Go

Likewise, to get Glaceon, you will have to evolve Eevee and apply a Glacial Lure during the evolution. Both lure modules cost 200 coins at the in-game store.

How to get Sylveon in Pokemon Go

To conclude, we have Sylveon, the generation 6 Eevee evolution of Eevee. Sylveon is all about loyalty, so you will have to earn 70 hearts with Eevee as your buddy Pokemon (Great buddy level) and keep her as your buddy during the evolution to get this form.

What is the best Eevee evolution in Pokemon Go?

First of all, let's have a look at the max stats of Eeveelutions in the game:

Umbreon is arguably the best Eevee evolution form in Pokemon Go, as it has excellent use in PvP, especially in the Great League and the Ultra League. It also comes with powerful moves, making it one of the top Dark-type Pokemon in the game.

Sylveon, as Fairy-type Pokemon, dominates Dragon-type Pokemon so that it will find great use in the Master League rather than the Great and Ultra Leagues. It is an excellent alternative to Togekiss or Gardevoir, which are harder to build.

While not a PvP king anymore, Vaporeon is a great Water-type that performs well in both PvP and PvE. It is an excellent alternative for players that don't have a strong Kyogre or Gyarados.

Glaceon and Leafeon are decent choices in their Pokemon types (Ice and Grass), respectively, which have some potential in the Master League when fighting with a type advantage.

Ideally, you would want to skip Jolteon, Espeon, and Flareon entirely, as they are the weakest Eevee evolutions. However, Espeon has some good PvE potential if you lack a more powerful Psychic-type Pokemon.
